There are no volunteer trainings scheduled for July but stay tuned for exciting training opportunities in the near future.

If you have specific training topics you feel would help you in your volunteer efforts, please contact us.

Dragonflies and Damselflies– flying jewels of the insect world
Saturday, September 18th
10 AM – 12 PM
Audience: all volunteers
Location: Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge
Register for this training
There are many kinds of these big and colorful insects at the Refuge and Bruce Lund will help walk participants to discover them all around us. We can expect to see Flame skimmers, Blue-ringed dancers, Kiowa dancers, American rubyspots, and others as we walk along the trails and streams. Bruce will net a few to see them up close and let them fly off again. Easy walking. Cameras and binoculars are welcome.

Small mammals, birds, and fossils
Saturday, October 23rd
10 AM – 12 PM
Audience: all volunteers
Location: Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge
Register for this training
At night, the Refuge is alive with a variety of small mammals that emerge from their underground burrows to feed and visitors rarely see these nocturnal critters. For this walk, Bruce Lund will put out live traps so that we can see and talk about some of these neat little critters up close – and then release them back to their burrows. As we walk about, we’ll also watch for fall/winter birds AND for fossils that are all around us. Easy walking. Cameras and binoculars are welcome.
