Job Title: Public Affairs Assistant
Job Description: The volunteer will perform a range of assignments designed to develop writing and editing skills, increase knowledge of the organization and functions of the National Park Service, and introduce the organization's publication and information policies. He or she will prepare and edit articles and stories for publication in the Department and Park Service in-house newsletters, gather information for and write segments of brochures and other information materials and respond to inquiries for information from newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, other Federal agencies, state and local governments and the general public. The individual may also be asked to help the Public Affairs Officer with general administrative work including answering phones, copying documents, faxing information, preparing daily news clips, and administrative work related to Freedom of Information Act requests. He or she will also assist the Public Affairs Officer with media days and interagency work.
Time Commitment: Minimum of 6 hours per week.
Minimum Training/knowledge requirements: Basic knowledge of the field of journalism, communications or English. Skills in writing and oral communication.

Job Title: Emergency Medical Technical Volunteer
Job Description: Lake Mead National Recreation Area is looking for a select group of volunteers to provide Emergency Medical Services throughout the park. Medical services are provided on land, water, back-country and in rural areas. Although trauma is the primary reason for intervention, the environment also provided a need for medical treatment throughout the year. Helicopter transport is the main way the park transports it’s victims due to the rural setting and types of injuries.
Minimum training/knowledge requirements: EMT Basic certification ( Nevada and/or Arizona or eligible for reciprocity from another state) or First Responder Certification by a Department of Transportation. approved course and CPR certification
Time Commitment: 1-10 hour shift per month working on an ambulance or other type of emergency response vehicle and attendance to a mandatory 2 hour meeting once per month
