Job Title: Tortoise Habitat Monitor
Job Description: Perform daily monitoring of Tortoise Habitat and live tortoises at Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center.
Qualifications:
- Physical ability to climb over short walls into Tortoise Habitat and flexibility to bend over to monitor burrows and to control sprinkler systems.
- Willingness to answer visitors' questions about desert tortoises and the Habitat.
- Ability to work independently.
Training: Volunteer Orientation, Tortoise Habitat Training
Time Commitment: Generally 2 to 4 days per month during March through October.
Job Title: Information Desk Specialist
Job Description: Greet visitors and provide them with information about Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, area attractions, and Las Vegas general information
Duties:
- Become familiar with the natural, cultural, and recreational resources of the area so that you can provide visitors with descriptions and information about the trails, picnic areas, scenic drive, geology, plants, and animals.
- Distribute literature to visitors.
- Use trail photo books to enhance information provided to visitors.
- Restock brochures, permits, and lost and found forms; leave note for any required reorder with the desk supervisor.
- Clean the listening wands and check videos for sound quality.
- Refer BLM policy inquiries or emergency situations to BLM staff member.
Training: Volunteer Orientation, Desk Orientation
Time Commitment: 4 hours per month
Job Title: Cultural Monitor/Site Steward
Job Description:
Monitor cultural resource sites under the direction of the Red Rock Canyon Cultural Resource Specialist Archaeologist. Use the existing BLM photo monitoring guide for Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to complete photo and other monitoring of sites on a regular basis. Record resource damage using cultural resource reporting form. Prepare documentation, using specific sketch formats and photographs, to report site changes and document new site information.
Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Might present programs for the general public.
- Physical ability to move over challenging, unpaved surfaces and, uneven terrain, and work in conditions of heat over 110 degrees or as low as 32 degrees. Must be able to perform light- to medium- duty tasks.
- Previous experience is desirable but not required.
- Operate a 35 mm or digital camera; computer experience helpful.
- Artistic ability highly desirable.

Time commitment: 6 to 12 hours monthly with minimal time commitment during periods of extreme temperatures.
Job Title: Environmental Education Assistant
Job Description:
Lead groups of children on environmental education programs and hikes in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area as assigned. Facilitate group activities at teacher workshops. Assist with school groups visiting Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center. Prepare for activity or hike by becoming familiar with material and/or hike area.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work with children. Could require background check.
- Basic knowledge of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
- Ability to speak in front of large groups.
- Ability to walk 4 miles over uneven terrain.
- Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Time Commitment: One or more days per month while Clark County schools are in session, generally September through early May.
Job Title: Hike Leader/Hike Assistant
Job Description:
Plan and lead group hikes within Red Rock Canyon and other public lands. Provide interpretive information regarding various aspects of the Mojave Desert. Could require background check.
Qualifications:
- Must be physically capable of moving over uneven terrain in extreme temperature ranges.
- Ability to interact well with highly diverse personalities.
- Thorough knowledge of Red Rock Canyon trails system.
- General information about Mojave Desert plant life, geology, animal life.

Time Commitment: Varies per individual, but one or two days per month are preferred.
Job Title: Landscaping Team
Job Description:
Assist with care of all landscaping within Visitor Center complex. Remove invasive species and care for existing, native plant life. Assist with approved seed collection and plant propagation program. Provide information to Red Rock Canyon visitors on an as-needed basis. Will work in close cooperation with University of Nevada – Master Gardeners.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Mojave Desert native plants.
- Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of people.
- Ability to carry 25 pounds and move over uneven terrain in extreme temperature ranges.
Training: Volunteer Orientation; CPR/First Aid; additional training as determined by team leader
Time Commitment: 2 days (12 to 14 hours total) per month.
Job Title: Natural Resource Team
Job Description:
Trail maintenance and design within General Management Plan guidelines; area rehabilitation and improvement; graffiti removal; smaller construction projects.
Qualifications:
- Physically able to move over uneven terrain in extreme temperature ranges.
- Ability to safely carry 25 pounds.
- General construction knowledge and/or willingness to learn.
- Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of people.
Training: Volunteer Orientation; CPR/First Aid; Equipment Operation; Radio Instruction; Defensive Driving (if operating government vehicles); specialized trail maintenance classes as available.
Time Commitment: One or two days per month, generally weekends.
Job Title: Trail Monitor/Adopt-A-Trail
Job Description:
Periodically hike trails within Red Rock Canyon, collecting trash and noting areas of concern. Submit written report of trail conditions, wildlife observed, maintenance requirements, and/or graffiti observed.

- Ability to communicate/interact with diverse group of people.
